Purple sea moss Originates from Jamaica Oceans chondrus crispus
Jamaican Seamoss is a multi color seaweed, also known as Irish moss.
It commonly grows in the Northern Atlantic coasts of America and Europe, mainly in Canada, Ireland, and Iceland, and very rare Jamaica’s Ocean
Sea algae is harvested due to its high collagen content — namely lambda-carrageenan. This is a polysaccharide widely used as a thickener and stabilizer in the cosmetic and food industries.
It’s also rich in minerals and vitamins b chromium, copper, b12, iodine, silica, selenium, vanadium, zinc, sulfur compounds, protein, bromine, beta-carotene, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, pectin, and vitamin c.
These are necessary for numerous body functions, including thyroid function, bone health, building muscle, and transporting oxygen
REHYDRATE: TO REHYDRATE MOSS, PLACE DESIRED AMOUNT OF SEA MOSS IN A LARGE BOWL, AND POUR WATER, (SPRING WATER OR DISTILLED WATER IS RECOMMENDED), OVER THE MOSS, COVERING COMPLETELY. BE SURE TO ADD 2-3X MORE WATER THAN SEA MOSS, AS THE SEA MOSS WILL EXPAND AS IT REHYDRATES. ALLOW TO REHYDRATE 4-12 HOURS OR OVERNIGHT. RINSE WELL AT LEAST 3 TIMES ONCE REHYDRATED TO REMOVE ANY SAND. OCCASIONALLY YOU MAY FIND A GIFT FROM MAMA SEA IN THE FORM OF A SEA SHELL. TREASURE IT.
PREPARE SEAMOSS GEL:
STEP 1) REHYDRATE YOUR SEA MOSS, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. BEGINNERS START WITH ABOUT 4 DRY OUNCES OF MOSS.
STEP 2) FOR BEGINNERS USE ABOUT 4 OUNCES OF MOSS TO 7 CUPS OF BOILED WATER. ONCE THE WATER HAS REACHED THE BOILING POINT, TURN OFF THE BURNER, AND ADD THE REHYDRATED AND THROUGHLY RINSED. COVER THE POT AND ALLOW IT TO STEEP FOR ABOUT 30-40 MINUTES.
STEP 3) ONCE THE SEAMOSS HAS STEEPED FOR THE RECOMMENDED TIME, STRAIN THE AND ADD ALL OF THE MOSS INTO YOUR HIGH SPEED BLENDER. THEN ADD 4-5 CUPS OF THE WATER USED TO STEEP IT INTO THE BLENDER. NOW BLEND IT ALL UNTIL THE SEAMOSS IS COMPLETELY LIQUIFIED. YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS IN TWO BATCHES, DEPENDING UPON THE SIZE OF YOUR BLENDER.
STEP 4) POUR LIQUID INTO A LARGE GLASS CONTAINER OR PITCHER AND PLACE IN THE FRIDGE UNCOVERED OR WITH A LID THAT ALLOWS IT TO BREATHE. THIS WILL PREVENT IT FROM SPOILING DUE TO TRAPPING MICROBES IN A SEALED JAR. PURPLE SEA MOSS WILL THICKEN TO A GEL CONSISTENCY AS IT COOLS. THIS WILL TAKE SEVERAL HOURS, OR OVERNIGHT. IN SOME CASES, WILL NOT THICKEN TO A GEL, BUT WILL MAINTAIN ITS LIQUID CONSISTENCY DUE TO TOO MUCH WATER OR NOT ENOUGH MOSS BEING USED. LEARNING YOUR BALANCE OF SEAMOSS TO WATER COMES WITH TIME AND PRACTICE. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DISCARD YOUR MOSS IF IT DOESN'T GEL FOR YOU THE FIRST TIME. IT IS STILL VERY VERY MINERAL RICH
