REHYDRATE: TO REHYDRATE SEAMOSS, PLACE DESIRED AMOUNT OF IN A LARGE BOWL, AND POUR WATER, (SPRING WATER OR DISTILLED WATER IS RECOMMENDED), OVER THE MOSS, COVERING COMPLETELY. BE SURE TO ADD 2-3X MORE WATER THAN SEA MOSS, AS THE MOSS WILL EXPAND AS IT REHYDRATES. ALLOW TO REHYDRATE 4-12 HOURS OR OVERNIGHT. RINSE WELL AT LEAST 3 TIMES ONCE REHYDRATED TO REMOVE ANY SAND. OCCASIONALLY YOU MAY FIND A GIFT FROM MAMA SEA IN THE FORM OF A SEA SHELL. TREASURE IT.
PREPARE SEAMOSS GEL:
STEP 1) REHYDRATE YOUR SEA MOSS, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. BEGINNERS START WITH ABOUT 4 DRY OUNCES.
STEP 2) FOR BEGINNERS USE ABOUT 4 OUNCES OF MOSS TO 7 CUPS OF BOILED WATER. ONCE THE WATER HAS REACHED THE BOILING POINT, TURN OFF THE BURNER, AND ADD THE REHYDRATED AND THROUGHLY RINSED SEAMOSS. COVER THE POT AND ALLOW IT TO STEEP FOR ABOUT 30-40 MINUTES.
STEP 3) ONCE THE MOSS HAS STEEPED FOR THE RECOMMENDED TIME, STRAIN AND ADD ALL OF THE MOSS INTO YOUR HIGH SPEED BLENDER. THEN ADD 4-5 CUPS OF THE WATER USED TO STEEP IT INTO THE BLENDER. NOW BLEND IT ALL UNTIL THE SEA MOSS IS COMPLETELY LIQUIFIED. YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS IN TWO BATCHES, DEPENDING UPON THE SIZE OF YOUR BLENDER.
STEP 4) POUR THE LIQUID INTO A LARGE GLASS CONTAINER OR PITCHER AND PLACE IN THE FRIDGE UNCOVERED OR WITH A LID THAT ALLOWS IT TO BREATHE. THIS WILL PREVENT IT FROM SPOILING DUE TO TRAPPING MICROBES IN A SEALED JAR. PURPLE SEA MOSS WILL THICKEN TO A GEL CONSISTENCY AS IT COOLS. THIS WILL TAKE SEVERAL HOURS, OR OVERNIGHT. IN SOME CASES, THE SEAMOSS WILL NOT THICKEN TO A GEL, BUT WILL MAINTAIN ITS LIQUID CONSISTENCY DUE TO TOO MUCH WATER OR NOT ENOUGH MOSS BEING USED. LEARNING YOUR BALANCE OF SEA MOSS TO WATER COMES WITH TIME AND PRACTICE. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DISCARD YOUR MOSS IF IT DOESN'T GEL FOR YOU THE FIRST TIME. IT IS STILL VERY VERY MINERAL RICH.
STORING PURPLE SEA MOSS GEL: ONCE YOU HAVE PREPARED YOUR GEL, STORE IT IN THE FRIDGE, UNCOVERED. MOSS IS A LIVING ORGANISM, THEREFORE IT NEEDS TO BREATHE. COMPLETELY COVERING THE CONTAINER WITH A LID CREATES A BREEDING GROUND FOR ORGANISMS AND BACTERIA TO GROW, WHICH WILL CAUSE THE SEA MOSS GO RANCID. GENERALLY GEL IS GOOD ON THE FRIDGE UNCOVERED FOR 1 MONTH. HOWEVER WE HAVE TESTED A BATCH THAT LASTED UP TO THREE MONTHS WITH NO SIGNS OF SPOILAGE AND MAINTAINED IT'S POTENCY. THAT BEING SAID IF YOU USE IT DAILY AND SPOILAGE WILL NEVER BE A CONCERN.
TEA: USE THE FORMULA ABOVE (YOU CAN USE WHATEVER AMOUNT YOU DESIRE, THESE ARE SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW CLIENTS) TO MAKE A GEL. THE ONLY THING THAT IS DIFFERENT IS TO ADD 6-8 CUPS OF WATER SO THAT THE SEA
MOSS WILL STAY IN LIQUID FORM. STORE IT AS RECOMMENDED AND JUST POUR OUT A CUP OR MUG FULL AND REHEAT IT WHEN READY TO DRINK A TEA. WE RECOMMEND KEEPING IT SIMPLE, BY ONLY ADDING THE JUICE OF A KEY LIME, OR LEMON. HOWEVER FEEL FREE TO EXPERIMENT AS LONG AS THE ADDITIONS ARE NOT TOXIC TO YOUR BODY.
USE: CAN BE USED IN MANY WAYS, BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY. INTERNALLY IS COMMONLY ADDED TO BEVERAGES SUCH AS SMOOTHIES, HERBAL TEAS, JUICES AND BY ITSELF AS A TEA. IT IS ALSO COMMONLY USED WHILE COOKING SOUPS, OIL SUBSTITUTE IN SAUTES, AND AS A THICKENER IN BAKED GOODS. IT CAN ALSO BE EATEN LIVE WITH SALADS AFTER REHYDRATING AND WASHING WELL. DON'T DISCARD THE WATER USED TO REHYDRATE IT. IT CAN BE USED AS HAND OR FOOT SOAKS, HAIR RINSE OR EVEN TO WATER YOUR PLANTS. THE USES ARE ONLY LIMITED TO OUR IMAGINATIONS.
EXTERNALLY, CAN BE USED ON THE FACE, AS A MASK. APPLY GEL, LEAVE ON FOR 15-20 MINUTES THEN RINSE OFF. IT CAN ALSO BE USED ON THE ENTIRE BODY, FOR INSTANCE WHILE USING A STEAM ROOM OR SAUNA. MANY CLIENS HAVE FOUND THE EXTERNAL USES VERY BENEFICIAL FOR SKIN ISSUES.
